Frank decided to tell you a bit about New Year 2012 in Croatia. Not that Frank cares much about that particular day in the year. Unless when it happens in the middle of the week, and Frank can enjoy some time off the work. Than it is nice. But this year it is not the case. It is weekend, and it is immediately less exciting. Even annoying. Frank is not grumpy, he just thinks everyday is worth celebrating. So what is the difference with the first day of a year. Anyway, Frank knows what he’s going to do. And if you don’t here are few ideas for New Year 2012 in Croatia.

Celebrate New Year 2012 in Zagreb

In Zagreb there are many things going on during the December. December activities are populary called Advent in Zagreb and they include: Christmas shopping on Bogoviceva and Gajeva Streets; Street performers on Tkalciceva Street playing every Thursday and Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7.30 p.m. and on Saturday from 11.00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m..Entertainment will include popular Croatian and international Christmans songs, old Zagreb songs, romantic chansons and evergreens; Christmas Story – Croatian and international brands compete in decorating Zagreb streets and popular buildings. Streets and buildings will be lighten up in innovative and creative way. It officially starts on 3rd of December at 6:00 p.m. and people can enjoy this beautiful decorations until 6th of Januar. To avoid you wandering around here are few spots that are part of Christmas Story: Radic Street, Dezmanov Passage, Strossmayer Promenade, Zrinjevac Park, Theaters Komdija, Gavella, Kerempuh, Croatian National Theater and Museum Mimara, just to mention few of them. The full list of places you can check here; Gricevanje, winter festival of pop culture, will take place on Gradec Platau from 9th until 31st of December. Festival will include: music, performances and parties; Finally, New Year Celebration at various locations including: On Ban Jelacic Square, the main square in Zagreb, there is an open air celebration with three bands playing: Crveni koralji, Telefon Blues Band and New Gypsies. Celebration starts at 8.00 p.m.. There is a big tent serving mulled wine and sausages; Aquarius Club is organizing MTV New Year 2012 with DJs Thalia, Mario Amarillo, Kosta Radman & Miss Lala and Martyn Negr, while MTV Megahits Mashup stand will be reserved for DJs Frx, Tom, Grade & Franciska. Frank would love to tell you more about options you can have in Split during the December, but guess what – even Frank wasn’t able to find out more information. So, as much as Dalmatians can be charming with their laid back attitude, Frank still can’t figure out why information like this is kept secret. And why it seems like nobody really cares.So lets move on.

Celebrate New Year 2012 in Dubrovnik

On 31st of December there is a whole day celebration in Dubrovnik Old Town, starting at 10:00 a.m. with Cocktail Show and vocal groups singing on Dubrovnik main street – Stradun. The party continues on Stradun at 9:00 p.m. with open air concerts by Croatian pop and folk singer Jelena Rozga and traditional vocal bands Klapa Cambi & Intrade. Many hotels offers New Year Celebration within the hotel. Revelin Culture Club can be a good choice for celebration. It is located within Dubrovnik City Walls and it has a great atmosphere. DJ Tom Novy will make sure you have a great clubbing celebration. Tickets for this all inclusive offer (all you can eat and drink) are 199 kn for girls, and 299 kn for guys.

Celebrate New Year 2012 in Rijeka

Rijeka opted for three bands on New Year’s Eve: Dubioza kolektiv, Gustafi & Diskurz. The New Year’s Celebration will take place on Rijeka main street – Korzo starting from 8:00 p.m.. Beside open air concerts,many clubs are organizing New Year’s Celebration: Stereo Dvorana prepared Trash Disco 90’s with DJ Bonko Sar. Get your old clothes out of closet, and compete in miss & mister of trash contest. The party starts at 9:30 p.m. The tickets are 27 kn, including cheap sparkling wine and chips at midnight. This is actually the most humorous party that Frank found. It is trash… all the way. Funny!; New Year in Palach on 4 floors: rock’n’roll hits on the first floor, electric swing with DJ Mr. Wox on the second floor, disco night on the third floor and Jubox floor where you can choose your own music for 2 kn a piece. Ticket is 50 kn per person. Honey and Blueberry Schnapps for only 5 kn a shoot; Kalypso Club in Rijeka is organizing House Music Celebration for New Year’s Eve. Guests are DJ Mark Ash and Lemon. Party starts at 9:00 p.m.. Tickets are 30 kn in pre-sale and 50 kn at the club.

Other Suggestions (Celebrate New Year 2012 feasting)

If you just don’t care where you are as long as the food is great, here are few ideas on restaurant’s celebrations. Restaurant Le Mandrac in Volosko near Opatija prepared a real treat for New Year Celebration. Welcome bites include Onion and Dried Tomato Pâté, Fresh Oystersters, Fish Tartar, and Smoked Octopus. Warm starters include Fish Cake with BBQ Sauce and Scallops with Parmesan Cheese, and the meal continues with Mushroom (King Bolete) Flan with Prawns and Cinnamon, Polenta with Scallops and Beetroot Cream, Sea bass with wild Mediterranean Herbs, White truffles, Shrimps, Prosciutto and Sage Cream, Roasted duck breast, venison stew with gnocchi and celery cream. For dessert, Le Mandrac prepared Roasted Chocolate With Pear and Rosemary Icecream. If you ask Frank, this sounds like a very Happy New Year. The price 590 kn per person. Restaurant Kukuriku in Kastav near Rijeka prepared 7 course menu for 680 kn, including glass of sparkling wine, live music and fireworks at midnight. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. The New Year Celebration starts with some couvert, this time it is vegetable tempura. It continues with Sea Bass Tartare, Tuna Fish Carpaccio, Caviar served on bed of Buckwheat Pancakes (known as Blini), Cream of Shrimp Soup, “Vol au vent” filled with Foie Gras and Kale in a fresh Truffles Sauce, Lamb Fillet with Green Pepper and Thyme and Veal Medallion served with Vegetable Tart. For dessert, Kukuriku, prepared Chocolate Souffle and Fried Brie Cheese with Berries Sauce. Wine Bar Tinja in Pula is organizing Wine & Dine Celebration – 6 course dinner paired with 6 different wine. The celebration starts at 8:00 p.m. with sparkling wine (included in the price) and ends at midnight with a glass of champange. The price 395 kn per person. Bookings until 24th of December.
