My travels taught me what items and travel essentials I can’t leave behind whether I go on a solo weekend trip, a girls’ getaway, business travel, or two weeks family vacation.

On all my travels, I learned how important is to be pragmatic when packing and whenever I manage to think of something new on how to carry less stuff, I have my arms and back thanking me. But that’s not all – I feel super happy and proud when I know I packed smart.

Here is my list of travel essentials for women that will make you pack light, smart, and practical!

10 Top Travel Items For Women

1. Backpack

If you plan to visit Croatia or any other country for a short period of time, buying a proper backpack is a lifesaver. First, if you are traveling on a low budget, you can buy a ticket with only a backpack included.

Second, even if you have some other luggage, one extra bag can mean a lot. When I was buying a backpack, my main criteria were that it is cheap and that it can fit lots of stuff. I found it confusing that everything is stated in liters, but to help you – a size of 30 liters is just perfect. It can fit underneath the seat in planes and you can pack all you need inside.

I like and recommend this NEEKFOX 30L Hiking Backpack. It is a lightweight but strong, foldable, and spacious backpack.

2. Travel bottles

Travel bottles are one of the great travel essentials for women! They allow you to pack your cream, shower gel, or whatever liquid you travel with while, at the same time, saving space in your suitcase.

They do not cost much, you can reuse them, and they do not take up too much space. One additional benefit (and, please, do not laugh at this) but sometimes I even use them to transport soft food, like pesto Genovese or caramelized onion spread from my favorite grocery shop in Milano. Ok, this happens just when I am traveling by plane with hand luggage only.

These Miamica travel bottles are a great addition to everybody’s travel essential list. This 15-piece set is TSA approved, and it comes with a toiletry bag.

3. Toothbrush Travel Case

I like keeping my toothbrushing kit organized. This is the reason I have a separate travel case for it. A toothbrush travel case keeps my toothbrush, toothpaste, different stuff for flossing, etc. well organized and in one place. This way I don’t need to think about whether or not I’ve forgotten something.

There are many travel cases for toothbrushing set available, but I really love this Wilken Toothbrush Case.

4. Small Hairbrush

A foldable hairbrush is one of the must-have travel essentials for women and it is definitely worth investing in.

This Tangle Teezer hairbrush has an amazing design that makes it perfectly travel-friendly. This compact hairbrush detangles easily hair without pulling using two-tiered teeth. It also comes with a protective click-on cover and in many colors and patterns. With these features, it doesn’t only keep my hair in order, but I know it won’t get destroyed when squeezed between other things in my backpack.

5. Facial Spray

I highly recommend packing a facial mist when traveling and refreshing your face from time to time. Facial mists simply make any trip easier and more comfortable.

We all know, that regardless of the means of transportation you take, the air isn’t the best, and the facial spray helps both you and your skin to feel fresh.

You can fill up one of the travel bottles described above with thermal water, your own homemade facial mist, or you can simply buy this recommended Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray Collection.

6. Refillable Bottle

It is safe to drink water from the tap in Croatia. And so it is in many destinations I visit on my travels. And my reasoning is not to pay for things we can have for free. Good tap water is certainly one of them! Plus, any excuse that makes me use less plastic is a great excuse! So, buying water in plastic bottles tears my heart (and wallet) apart.

This is why a refillable bottle is on the list of must-have travel essentials.

This Finedine’s stainless steel water bottle keeps hot beverages warm for up to 12 hours, and the cold ones cold for 24h.

7. Plug Adapter

Croatia has the same electric energy system as the rest of Europe and the sockets in use are type F. Depending on where you are coming from, you might need the plug adapter. It is cheaper to buy it up front than at airports. On the other hand, they are hard to find in the towns you visit either because of your lack of time or simply because you can’t find a store that stocks them.

8. Ballerinas (Slip On Flats)

I find ballet flats very practical for women. They are very comfortable, they do not take up too much space in the luggage and they change your outfit making it more elegant. What there is more to say?

These LM’s travel ballet flats are super comfy, stylish, and affordable.

9. Travel Bags

Whether you look into how to better organize your luggage, or you look into isolating some of your luggage from others, travel bags are absolute travel necessities to have on any trip. We all know that shoes and clean underwear don’t go hand in hand. We also know that we need separate ways to store our clean and dirty clothes. In any case, travel bags make the list of travel essentials for women.

We love these Kimmama travel bags, with mashed material, zipper, and transparent look that help us easily identify our clothes.

10. First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit becomes more important travel essential as we age. I know, I sound old (that I am not), but I admit that I haven’t thought about carrying a first aid kit when I was in my 20s. However, today I am a pro when it comes to packing essential first-aid items in a small case. In fact, I have it always on hand, and I regularly replenish it and check for the expiry dates of its content.

This General Medi mini first aid kit fits in the fist, and it contains as many as 110 hospital-grade first aid supplies.
