7th Olive Oil Fair In Vodnjan

Olive Oil Fair in Vodnjan, Istria is happening every year in November, for 7 consecutive years. It’s been around as long as Frank’s been in Istria. But for some reason Frank has never attended the fair. Until this year.

After the great day in Rabac, tasting Oleum Viride Extra Virgine Olive Oil at Belic Family, Frank headed for Vodnjan. At Vodnjan’s big parking a big exhibition tent is put up. On exhibit – local products: olive oil, cheese, ham (prosciutto), sausages, wine, jams, and many other locally produced delicacies. Entrance is free and you can just stroll around stands and taste whatever tempts you. If you wish to be wine tasting, you will need to buy wine vouchers and specially designed wine glass that you hang around your neck when empty. Just to make sure your arms are free for tasting delights. For each wine you want to taste, you handle a 7 kn (less than a euro) wine voucher. As for the wine glass, you get to keep it as the souvenir.

At the far end of the tent, there was a cooking area. The way it was set, it reminded Frank of a theater. On stage, the top Istrian chefs show cooking delicious meals: wild deer prepared with apricot and figs, and served with polenta, fish balls, traditional Istrian pasta served with different sauces. For 30 kn a meal, the price was a real bargain.
